The fall of Sinjar
Graphic content // Winter 2015 // The Sinjar offensive was an operation of Kurdish Peshmerga and PKK forces, to recapture the predominantly Yazidi populated city of Sinjar from the Islamic State (ISIS) group. It resulted in a decisive victory for the Kurdish forces, who expelled the ISIS militants from Sinjar and regained control of Highway 47, which until then had served as the major supply route between the ISIS strongholds of Raqqa in Syria and Mosul in Iraq. Following the recapture, east of Sinjar city, Kurdish forces found a mass graves with the remains of hundreds of Yezidis executed by ISIS militants.
